PLUS Kids is a program designed to reduce children's vulnerability to violence and trauma. Services offered help to prevent children from witnessing and/or experiencing unhealthy behaviors between family members. The services we provide are:

Supervised Parenting Time
PLUS Kids provides a warm, friendly place for parents to have a meaningful visit with their children if they are court ordered or volunteer to be supervised during visitation.

Safe Exchange
PLUS Kids provides a secure and neutral drop-off site where parents can be assured of a safe exchange of their children for visitation.

Parental Support Groups
PLUS Kids offers support groups to assist parents through the challenges of shared custody.

Child & Youth Services
PLUS Kids offers one-on-one support services for children and youth ages 4-16.

What are the benefits?

Both Supervised Visits and Supervised Exchanges are designed to assure that a child can have safe contact with an absent parent without having to be put in the middle of the parents' conflicts or other problems. It is the child's need for a relationship with both parents that is paramount.

For the Children:

  • It allows the children to maintain a relationship with both of their parents, something that is generally found to be an important factor in the positive adjustment to family dissolution.
  • It allows them to anticipate the visits without stress of worrying about what is going to happen and to enjoy them in a safe, comfortable environment without having to be put in the middle of their parent's conflict and/or other problems.

For the Custodial Parents:

  • You do not have to communicate or have contact with the person with whom you are in conflict or by whom you might be frightened or intimidated. The arrangements can be made by a neutral party (the visit supervisor) and there does not have to be contact before, during, or after the visits.

  • You can relax and feel comfortable allowing your child to have contact with the other parent.

For the Non-Custodial Parents:

  • You can be sure that your contact with your children does not have to be interrupted regardless of any personal or interpersonal problems you may be having.

  • If allegations have been made against you, which are often the case when supervision is ordered, you can visit without fear of any new accusations because there is someone present who can verify what happened during your time together. When using a professional service, you can also be assured that the supervisors are neutral and objective.

Scheduling
Supervised Parenting Time and Safe Exchanges are by appointment only.

All parents and children must complete an orientation before an exchange or visitation will be scheduled. At the orientation, the PLUS Kids Coordinator will sit down with each parent to explain the program, provide a tour of PLUS Kids and answer any questions or concerns.

Children will meet with Child and Youth Coordinator while parents are meeting.

Please call 320-762-4100 to make an appointment.
